Ever needed to boot your Mac to a firewire disk/drive, such as the Micromat Protege? Not a problem: hold down the ‘Option’ key while rebooting, and choose from the listed drives.
You can use the mouse to select the drive, then click the arrow pointing to the right to boot the system.

In an interesting development, the KISS Alive box set that was on iTunes yesterday for $1.49 is now a more realistic $39.96, and all comments posted by users have been deleted. Additionally, the album now contains 69 tracks as opposed to 70 yesterday.

Very curious as to what happened here, and even more curious how much this mistake cost Apple. If 1000 people got …

I recently had the need to automate the taks of renaming both the Exchange account name and domain name for a few dozen remote users. As opposed to writing up directions and risking that they a)wouldn’t do it or b)would make a mistake, I opted to go the route of making it easy for them.
Here’s the script used to:
open, then set Entourage to offline
rename the account
rename the domain
bring Entourage back online

An excellent new app called ‘Lilt’ is out from Jon Nathan, the maker of such Mac gems as Docktop and Preferential Treatment.
Lilt allows you to control your Mac using the ambient light and sudden motion sensors on 2004+ iBooks/Powerbooks/Macbooks. By assigning actions to specific criteria (example: if the left light sensor goes darker by 25%, switch to the previous iTunes track), you can do almost anything using your hands. (Which, in retrospect, is a little creepy…)

Jon has thoughtfully included several Applescripts in the downloadable image, and just as an fyi, you can also use the actions to launch applications or perform such actions as locking the screen or starting your screensaver.

We got our grimy little hands on a new (RED) iPod Nano today, as a gift for our lovely wife. But far be it from us to not provide unpacking photos to the masses!
Enjoy, and feel free to ask questions. Of particular note: we were happy to see the tiny Apple stickers and the cool new packing case.

Curious about what version of what apps are in the Developers Preview of Leopard? Then take a gander at the following information and wonder no more!
First, a screenshot of the System Profiler data, which is quick and dirty (180kb, 470×888px):

Then we have the following, which is a text dump of the same data, along with other information you might find useful. This goes after the jump, because frankly it is a HUGE amount of text. You can also download the raw text file here.

It was with a great deal of interest that I happened upon the new Kensington RDS FM transmitter and charger for iPods. Last week i got a new vehicle, and it was the first one I have owned with the RDS feature.
RDS stands for ‘Radio Data Systems’, and we’ll let Kensingtons blurb define it for us here:
Radio Data Systems (RDS) is a sub-frequency of FM radio, sent along with a normal music signal. It allows text to be displayed on RDS-enabled radios. Song and artist names can scroll across the stereo screen. The Kensington patent-pending RDS FM Transmitter will digitize song information and send it via RDS to a car stereo (along with music). RDS is available in various vehicle models offered by leading automakers.

An interesting article on Macrumors indicates that the ‘Teams’ feature of OS X Leopard Server could, in all likelihood, be a direct competitor to MS Sharepoint.

Fresh off the presses, here’s a first look at some of the cool new features in OS X Leopard!
As you’ll find all over the web at this point, there are some great new features in Apple Mac OS X Leopard, which is scheduled for release in early 2007.
Feel free to discuss these images, ask questions or make requests for other screenshots or usability items.
