Skip the voicemail prompts when calling a cellphone…

David Pogue posted this article on his NYTimes blog about how to bypass the time and money consuming prompts you get when you call someones cell and get their voicemail.

Basically, as soon as you get the prompt, hit the following key to ship the intro and carrier specific intro and get to the message leaving portion of your adventure:

Verizon: press *
Sprint: press 1
T-Mobile or Cingular: press #

A clever reader of his also adds that since you don’t know what carrier someone is using, you can leave instructions in your message, such as ‘to immediately leave a message, press #’.
