This date in history…

A year ago today, my office at work caught fire, destroying over $80,000 worth of laptops, servers and accessories. The fire was caused by a faulty UPS, and despite the fact that we were down for less than 18 hours, the resultant rebuilding and relocation slowed us down for many months.
The funny thing is that today, the only people who remembered or mentioned it were myself and my partner. Not a single other employee mentioned it.
In a way, that makes me glad…we have come a long way, and the overwhelming sense of doom and gloom in the days following the fire were soon pushed aside by business as usual. We went from a $8 million company in 2005 to over $40 million this year, all while struggling to catch up and accommodate 60 new employees. It was a tough year, but in retrospect it bumped us into a different tier. One where doing what it takes to get the job done and making smart, fast decisions based on guts and instinct beats out endless meetings and hesitation.
It was a good year.
:)

Here are a few pictures from the fire, December 6th, 2005. There are several, as well as some webcam pictures of the fire starting and spreading.
